Welcome to Elk Grove
A lively suburban community with great dining, shopping, and recreation
Elk Grove was founded in 1850 as a stagecoach stop between San Francisco and Sacramento. The town is named after the Elk Grove Hotel, built on the site to accommodate travelers. It remained a sparse farming community until the 1980s, when building projects sprang up to accommodate the growing workforce in Sacramento and San Francisco. Elk Grove has been a rapidly-growing suburban community ever since.
Today, it’s home to Apple’s corporate office — an extension of its Cupertino headquarters — and Apple remains the city’s biggest employer. Elk Grove offers a range of real estate options, from spacious starter homes and modern condominiums to ranch estates and large luxury homes, which you’ll find in the more affluent neighborhoods of Cresleigh Ranch Village and Glenbrooke.

Local Lifestyle
Elk Grove is part tech, part suburban, and part college town. With many residents either working for start-ups, Apple, or education or commuting to Sacramento, the city moves at a faster pace than most suburban areas. It’s still a close-knit community, with locals partaking in annual events and casual get-togethers.
Dining, Shopping & Entertainment
Known for its diverse dining scene, Elk Grove has a variety of cafes, restaurants, bars, and even vineyards to choose from. Set in a historic 1908 bungalow, Boulevard Bistro serves California cuisine cooked and prepared using old-world French techniques. They offer an extensive wine list of local and European wines.
For fine dining, Sheldon Inn has prime meats, fresh seafood, and other American favorites elegantly prepared and served in a white tablecloth setting. They also have a wine club, a tasting room, and a popular Sunday brunch.
The Elk Grove branch of Mikuni boasts design and décor inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright. They offer an extensive menu of sushi, bento, teriyaki, curry, small plates, and low-calorie options. Pair your dinner with a bottle of sake or one of their Yuzu cocktails.
For more casual dining, Gogi Korean BBQ and Hot Pot is highly rated for their menu offerings. You can grill the meat at your table and choose your own sides and sauces.
For shopping, Delta Shores has over 50 retailers, services, and eateries. For unique items, Elk Grove’s Old Town Plaza features an array of smaller, locally-owned businesses. Here, you’ll find everything from antique jewelry and one-of-a-kind clothing to games and puzzles for all ages.
Things to Do
Emerald Lakes Golf Course offers a nine-hole regulation course open to golfers of all skill levels. They have both an adult and junior program. Beginners can take group classes or opt for private one-on-one lessons to hone their skills. There’s also a golf club that hosts monthly tournaments where members can compete against each other for a chance to participate in NCGA-sponsored events.
If you want to head outdoors, Elk Grove has over 90 parks to explore. Right by the lake, Elk Grove Regional Park boasts several sports fields, an aquatic center, picnic areas, and walking trails. There’s even an off-leash dog park on one side, perfect for your furry friends.
On Saturday mornings, the Farmers’ Market at Laguna Gateway features certified produce, artisanal items, specialty products, baked goods, fruit preserves, and plants and flowers sold by various vendors. The market is open year-round.
Elk Grove is also home to several festivals, including the Multicultural Festival, Big Truck Day, and Dog Days of Summer, where you can bring your pets for a day of games and raffles and where attendees can adopt or get licensing information.
